Our Fire Consultants, Rod Taylor and Huw Williams, at Capital People share their experience and advice of fire safety and regulations, including tips for those in charge of commercial and residential buildings.
With the tragic Grenfell Tower fire earlier this month bringing fire safety regulations into question, our Fire Consultants, Rod Taylor and Huw Williams, share their experiences and some expert advice. Has there been an increase in high-rise buildings in recent years? Rod: High-rise buildings were few and far between in Cardiff (and Wales in general) when I worked as a fire fighter in the 70s. I attended a wide range of fires in terms of size and scale – some deliberate acts of arson, others due to electrical faults, cooking chips or barbecuing on balconies… Louden Square, Bute town, Cardiff Docks and the Pearl Assurance were the main tallest buildings – each with very different risks. Louden Square was a typical 60s built residential tower block (similar to Grenfell Tower).
